The French American School of Princeton opened its doors in September 2000 as an independent nonprofit institution. Its mission is to meet the educational needs of both the French speaking community in the Princeton area and the American families seeking an academically rigorous education in a challenging bilingual environment.
It started out as a preschool with five students in a church located in the heart of Princeton. In September 2001, Grade 1 to 3 classes were opened. Growing rapidly, the school moved to its current location in September 2002, in a larger church building located on All Saints Rd. The following years, the school grew and rapidly doubled in size, reaching full capacity in September 2005. The school acquired its own facility located on Carter Rd, in September 2007.
The school is now located on two campuses within 15-20 minutes driving distance from each other: the Princeton Campus serves the Preschool, and the Lawrenceville Campus is the home of Kindergarten to Fifth Grade. Today with an enrollment of 106 students, the school is still growing and will expand into 6th grade by September of 2008.
Formerly known as Princeton French School, the school becomes the French American School of Princeton in January 2008. This change of name reiterates the school's mission, which is dedicated to offering a bilingual and bicultural education.
The French American School of Princeton is the only French-American school in New-Jersey.
