What does it mean to be bilingual? To understand, speak, read and write in two languages
In addition to giving them the ability to communicate with many more people, children derive many benefits from bilingual instruction. They show levels of overall school performance, curiosity of the mind and creative thinking that are above the average. Besides stretching them intellectually, children speaking two languages have a deeper appreciation of the differences between people and cultures.
Learning two languages is a long process, taking place over several years. Wishing a bilingual education for one's child is a very important decision, but it must also be a family project. It is a specific and fascinating journey: the child must get support from both his/her family and the school.

Advantages of bilingual education
It is beneficial to develop bilingualism in early childhood. Studies have shown that children have the capacity to learn a new language more naturally than adults (or teenagers) do. Young children acquire foreign languages easily and quickly. Children learning through the medium of two languages expand their view of the world, and better prepare themselves for a future where the ability to adapt will be key.

French language in the world
French is spoken by 125 million people in over 40 countries. French as a foreign language is the second most commonly taught language in the world (after English). Most American universities require knowledge of at least one foreign language. For the past twenty years, French remains the second most studied foreign language in institutions of higher education in the United States (after Spanish).
