FAQs

FASP is for all families who value bilingual, multicultural, and international education. Our classes are taught in English and French and our families come from many different countries and speak over 20 different languages. Meet some of our FASP families here.

FASP accepts students in grades Preschool through Fifth Grade with no prior knowledge of French. Applicants in Grades Six through Eight are required to demonstrate French language proficiency before joining FASP.

FASP offers language support in small groups focusing on the unique needs of each student for those who may need extra help in French or English.

We take great pride in offering a supportive and nurturing environment for all of our students. Learn more about our bilingual approach here.

Many FASP families speak a different language other than English and/or French at home. Multilingual families are welcome at FASP and enhance our commitment to diversity. Their children whose brains already process more than one language thrive in our bilingual learning environment.

FASP's caring educators are adept at navigating the complexities of learning both French and English in school and speaking another language or languages at home. FASP provides a safe and nurturing environment for all students and we share a deep respect for the diversity of all of our families.

Will learning a second language confuse a child or negatively impact their mastery of English grammar?

It’s a common worry for parents exploring bilingual education. According to recent studies in neuroscience, learning a second language actually strengthens one’s command of grammar in both languages.

This piece from The New York Times explores how the human brain processes language and grammar. The research highlights the incredible adaptability of our minds when mapping linguistic rules.

At FASP, we see the real-life proof of this science every day. When children learn a second language, they learn to analyze how language is structured. By comparing two different sets of grammar rules, their brains develop a heightened awareness of syntax, mechanics, and structure. And our students are exceedingly well prepared for their future education, as evidenced by the schools they attend after graduating from FASP.

The result? Bilingual students often develop a deeper, more sophisticated command of English grammar than their monolingual peers, because their brains truly understand how language works from the inside out.

Learning a second language is a cognitive upgrade that strengthens a child's native tongue while giving them a passport to the world.

Homework is assigned daily or weekly in both English and French to support and reinforce concepts learned in the classroom. Students are not asked to learn new skills or lessons at home on their own. Homework help is also offered in our Extended Day Program after school.

Communication between parents and teachers is essential. If your child is struggling to complete homework independently, or spends too much time on homework, or forgets regularly to bring the appropriate material home, please let your teacher know.

The FASP Middle School program prepares students to attend International, American or French private or public schools. Visit the Portrait of a Graduate page to explore more.

The average class size at FASP is 14 students, and our student teacher ratio is 8:1. Smaller classes allow our teachers to provide the personalized attention to each student that is essential to a successful bilingual school environment.
