Preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten Curriculum Overview
The well-being of your child is our priority. Our objective is to offer our students a safe and nurturing learning environment that meets their physiological, emotional, and intellectual needs. Our Early Childhood Education curriculum is organized in the areas described below; they are adapted to the age and the learning style of your child.
Living Together
Learning to live together is the student’s first experience. At school, they share common spaces and activities including organized play, board games, and collaborative project work. The sharing of responsibilities, listening to, and respecting others are emphasized at all times.
Language Arts
Children work on developing and mastering communication and comprehension skills. FASP educators, all native French and/or English speakers, work passionately on early reading comprehension with an emphasis on building dual language word and phrase constructs. Fostering the love of reading to encourage early literacy skills is of primary importance in any language to increase vocabulary and develop fluency.
Acquiring and developing syntactical and phonemic awareness are incorporated in various activities, in both English and French.
Mathematics
Young children's developmental math awareness increases daily. They experience opportunities to grow their comprehension of numbers and explore shapes, patterns, and spatial relationships. Children learn to classify, sort, estimate, quantify, and memorize numerical relationships as they imprint early arithmetic skills, and even dip their toes into geometry while constructing puzzles!
Science and Technology
Children, naturally curious, explore their surrounding world every day. They strive to learn more about their environment on the way to becoming respectful citizens and stewards of the planet. Teachers share their love of learning with students, encouraging them to observe, question and find answers. Budding scientific skills are encouraged and reinforced through multiple hands-on activities and project-based learning.
Visual Arts and Music
FASP students develop and expand their imagination, creativity, and artistic sensibilities. Every year, they are inspired as they learn about various international artists, their work, and the technique they employ, from Alexander Calder to Otto Zitko! Students create multi-dimensional artwork using various media.
Music is particularly important in bilingual education. It allows students to identify sounds and tonal variations helping them further develop their French and English language skills. They enjoy singing in both languages while expanding and gaining familiarity with new vocabulary. Our music program offers opportunities to expose children to a diversity of musical instruments and cultures.
Physical Education
Movement is an essential element of childhood development. In physical education (P.E.) class, we work on gross-motor skills and individual corporal expression through gymnastics, mime, or choreography. These activities promote developmental skill building with spatial awareness concepts, while engaged in collaborative activities in a team framework.
